A Cabin With a Story
Long before Gilded Fern became a place for guests and celebrations, these properties were simply home.

Dave Mahler purchased the Hyer Road property in 1973 and built the farmhouse for his family. In 1975, he purchased the Hatcher Pass property, where he imagined a cabin of his own and drew the plans for what he hoped to build.

Years later, his son and daughter-in-law brought those drawings to life, building the cabin from Dave's original vision. Both properties were eventually passed down to his son, George, carrying the family's connection to the land into another generation.

Today, those same places are being shared with others in a new way.

Your Getaway Near Hatcher Pass
Little Susitna Hideaway puts you near one of the Mat-Su Valley’s best-known mountain areas. Set on 40 private acres in the woods, the property offers a quieter home base for exploring the Hatcher Pass area while staying within the greater Wasilla and Palmer region.

Hatcher Pass stretches into the Talkeetna Mountains north of Wasilla and Palmer, where mountain roads lead to trails, alpine scenery, and remnants of Alaska’s gold-mining history. The area changes with the seasons, with hiking and other outdoor recreation during the warmer months and skiing, snowboarding, sledding, and snowshoeing among the winter activities.
Weddings at Hatcher Pass
