A Home With History Behind It

In the 1970s, Dave and Dorinda Mahler purchased this little piece of Alaska and began building a life here with their two young boys.

The home wasn't built all at once. It came together slowly, piece by piece, through hard work, determination, and plenty of love. There were even times during the building process when the family lived beneath tarps while the house took shape around them.

Every corner of this property holds a piece of their story.

Although it was never a working farm, there was once a chicken coop where the bungalows now stand, a small reminder of the simple life they created here.

What began as one family's dream has grown into something we can now share with others.

The property remained connected to the family through the years, and the farmhouse began operating as a short-term rental in 2021.

Room for Up to Five

The farmhouse has two bedrooms and sleeps up to five guests.

It includes one bathroom, a kitchen, a washing machine, free Wi-Fi, and a playroom with a TV.

Mountain Views at Hyer Road

One of the defining features of the Hyer Road property is its view toward Pioneer Peak.

The farmhouse shares the property with Knik Bungalow and Chugiak Bungalow, so guests traveling together can explore separate lodging options while remaining close by.

Your Home Base in the Mat-Su Valley

Hyer Mountain Farmhouse is located in Palmer, Alaska, in the heart of the Mat-Su Valley. Set between the Palmer and Wasilla areas, the property gives first-time Alaska visitors a place to settle in among mountain views and open space without being far removed from everyday stops, dining, and places to explore.

For guests arriving from outside Alaska, the area makes it possible to mix quiet time at the farmhouse with days spent discovering Southcentral Alaska. The Wasilla Museum & Visitor Center is located about five miles from the property, while restaurants and other local stops are also available within several miles.

The property is also about 36 miles from Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, making Anchorage the primary arrival point for many out-of-state guests.

Hyer Road Weddings

Hyer Road is also one of Gilded Fern's settings for outdoor micro weddings and elopements of up to 30 guests.

For wedding packages, the farmhouse may be used for overnight accommodations, while the wider property provides event access. The two bungalows can also be part of the wedding experience depending on the package selected.
